Backup (Save) Your Data Every Day

Occasionally we receive a call telling us they have experienced a computer crash and do not have a recent backup of their data. Or they thought they had a backup but it wasn’t current or was corrupted.

Sadder words can hardly be heard.

Today backing up your data has never been easier, less time consuming or inexpensive.

To backup your RDS Advantage data you only need to select one folder together with its sub-folders — ADVDATA.

Look on your RDS login screen at the line just below Folder: (a little bit indented). This is what you want to backup. This includes all the data in the system. Marilyn suggests: – A lot of our clients are backing up to flash drives and overwriting the backup each time. If the files are corrupted on their hard drive they may backup bad files and never realize it. You should always have a series of backups to choose from when you want to restore a file.

Backing up your data to your computer disk is risky. If it crashes you don’t have any backup. Even if good, it is only the most recent data, and may be corrupted.

Recommendation:

Keep two sets of media (flash drive, DVD, etc.) with one for each day of the week. Label them Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc., and copy the ADVDATA folder each day.

The next week use the second set of media. This will give you a backup of data for the past ten days (two weeks).

We backup data for RDS Connect cloud users each night, and store the previous 90 days on line.
