The church is called by Christ to this most important ministry as he called upon Peter and his Disciples to “Feed my sheep.”<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0– John 21:17<\/p>\n

“Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 – Matthew 24:40<\/p>\n

“For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0– Galatians 5:14<\/p>\n

A case study:<\/p>\n

“Mary” is the volunteer member responsible for the care ministries of her church. She believes God calls her to this work. Her compassion for others, her relationship with members of the church and organizational skills make her especially qualified for this ministry. She enlists and leads those who carry out many services.<\/p>\n

She organizes this work around these areas:<\/p>\n

Hospital, recovery, and home-bound care
\nVisitation to hospitals and homes following illness<\/p>\n

Bereavement and funeral response
\nVisitation and help with arrangements are provided<\/p>\n

Food Teams
\nFood is served as requested during times of bereavement and such times as individuals returning home from the hospital<\/p>\n

Correspondence
\nNotes of congratulations, condolences, and thank-you’s are written<\/p>\n

Flower Delivery
\nCouples rotate weekly delivering altar flowers to homebound, hospitalized and for special occasions.<\/p>\n

Prayer Chain
\nVolunteers respond to requests for prayer<\/p>\n

Transportation
\nFurnishes rides to church and other activities for those who do not have transportation.<\/p>\n

Covenant Care team \u00e2\u20ac\u201c extended one-on-one support
\nIndividuals covenant for one year to stay in personal touch with one to three people.<\/p>\n

Coordination with pastor and staff
\nKeep the pastor(s) and staff informed of those to whom these services are given.<\/p>\n

Approximately fifty volunteers are involved in these ministries. This church has an average worship attendance of 200.<\/p>\n
